Reacher star’s hit Netflix action movie set to get a sequel
Netflix film War Machine is set to get a sequel, after the sci-fi action flick starring Reacher’s Alan Ritchson became one of the 10 most popular original movies in the streamer’s history.
The film was added to Netflix’s library on Friday 6 March and has amassed 139 million views in that time, so it’s no surprise that it’s not taken long for a follow-up to be confirmed.
Patrick Hughes will once again be directing and co-writing the sequel with James Beaufort, while Ritchson seems likely to return in the lead role as the Sergeant known only as 81 – although that has not been 100 per cent confirmed just yet.
The first film unfolded during the final stage of US Army Ranger selection where “an elite team’s training exercise turns into a fight for survival against an unimaginable threat”.
Alongside Ritchson, the cast also included the likes of Jai Courtney, Dennis Quaid, Esai Morales and Keiynan Lonsdale.
In our three-star review of the film, we said that War Machine “morphs into an oddly charming celebration of Ritchson’s impressive screen presence,” adding that it “also delights in showing blood, bones and guts, so be warned if you’re not in the mood for a glut of flying viscera”.
No further plot details or information has been revealed about the next film as things stand, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for any additional developments in the coming weeks and months.
War Machine is now streaming on Netflix.
