Rebecca Ferguson’s Stephen King Movie Director Teases Reunion After $45 Million Flop
Rebecca Ferguson has become a massive star in the last few years thanks to her roles in Dune, Mission: Impossible, and Silo, but six years ago she teamed up with a Star Wars icon for a Stephen King movie that flew under the radar upon release. Ferguson stars alongside Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi) in Doctor Sleep, the largely forgotten sequel set years after the beloved horror movie, The Shining (1980), following a grown-up Dan Torrance as he works to protect a young girl from a cult known as The True Knot. Cliff Curtis (Avatar: The Way of Water) also stars in the film, which was written and directed by Mike Flanagan.
Flanagan recently attended Motor City Comic Con in Detroit, where he was asked for his thoughts on Ferguson after working with her on the 2019 horror film. “She’s been busy with a little indie project called Dune, and she’s on Season 3 of Silo right now. She still finds the time to do, like, one of the biggest movies on Netflix right now.” Flanagan is referring to A House of Dynamite, the political thriller from director Kathryn Bigelow in which she co-stars with Idris Elba.
He continued, “She’s prolific, but we’re in constant contact. Once every couple of months, I hear from Rebecca just saying, ‘Hey, what’s going on?’ And I’ll say, ‘Hey! Would you like to come do this part? I’d love to talk to you about this thing.’ She’s always booked, but one of these days, it’ll work out for sure. I can’t give away the name of the character, but when I first got The Exorcist, she was one of my first phone calls.”
When Does Rebecca Ferguson’s Next Movie Come Out?
Rebecca Ferguson’s next movie comes out soon, in just over two months. She’s been tapped to star opposite Chris Pratt in Mercy, the upcoming cyber thriller following a detective who must stand trial in front of an AI judge for allegedly murdering his wife. The film will be released in theaters on January 23, 2026. She will also have a small role in Dune: Part Three, which is currently scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, but is subject to delay. She’ll even feature alongside Cillian Murphy in the Peaky Blinders movie, The Immortal Man, which is coming to Netflix sometime in 2026.
