First Official Live-Action Pictures Of Link & Zelda Revealed By Nintendo

Nintendo has confirmed that filming has begun on the live-action Legend of Zelda movie, including the first photos of Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda.

The live-action movie based on The Legend of Zelda franchise is being produced by Columbia Pictures and Nintendo, and being distributed by Sony Pictures. Little is known about the film, save for the actors playing Link and Princess Zelda, as well as its May 7, 2027, release date.

Following a leaked set shot, Nintendo has officially distributed pictures of Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda on the Nintendo Today app, confirming that filming has begun. These stills are available on the Cartridge Games BlueSky channel.

What Do The First Live-Action Stills Reveal About The Legend Of Zelda Movie?

The three images focus on Link and Princess Zelda. Link is shown wearing his classic green garb and doesn’t appear to be carrying a weapon, while Princess Zelda is wearing a blue outfit and is using a bow.

These outfits come from different eras, as Zelda’s costume is closer to what she wears in Breath of the Wild, while Link’s clothes come from the earlier games. It’s likely that the producers just chose contrasting and recognisable outfits, especially as they’re outdoors in New Zealand, where wearing a dress (Zelda’s more iconic outfit) isn’t practical.

The fact that Link and Zelda are together already, and that Link doesn’t have the Master Sword, suggests this could be an early shot in the movie, possibly at the beginning, before Ganon is introduced and the hero needs a weapon to stop him.

The stills don’t confirm whether the movie is directly adapting any of the games, and it could be a while before story details make their way online. It’s just incredible to see Link and Princess Zelda finally make their live-action debut.
