Created by Koyoharu Gotouge, Demon Slayer centers around Tanjiro Kamado. He sets out on a journey to heal his sister, Nezuko, who has turned into a demon after a tragic incident. In his journey, he joins the Demon Slayer Corp on a mission to kill the demon king Muzan Kibutsuji.
Directed by Haruo Sotozaki, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle covers a significant part of the penultimate arc, The Infinity Castle Arc. In the US, Sony Pictures Releasing serves as the distributor for the movie and has witnessed a massive box office collection since its release. The movie has opened to an impressive $70.6 million, which is higher than early estimates. It has set the record for the biggest opening for an international film in the US. It’s also the biggest opening for an R-rated animated film.
Given its success, the movie could be in theaters for 30 to 45 days and hit digital sites later. This estimate is based on Sony’s past movies and is subject to change based on the theatrical performance.
Generally, the total number of screens for a movie starts to diminish after four weeks. Sony’s previous two movies, 28 Years Later and Karate Kid: Legends, were in theaters for about five to six weeks. But if Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle continues to make more money at the box office, the movie may not see such a drastic change in screen count.
